Reception 2015/16

Scroll down for all of our latest summer term news or read all about the fun we have had so far this year. More photos of our learning journey will be added soon.

Summer Clip Art

Reception class started this term with the arrival of two exciting parcels and a letter from Pirate Pete. The children were very sad to hear that Pirate Pete has set sail for a new adventure and will not be in touch with us again for a while. However, he left us two final presents, a book and a pet robo fish!

We have been busy reading the story 'What the Ladybird heard' and have enjoyed painting animals from this story. We are going to be making our own maps and learning more about animals that live on the farm in the next few weeks. We are very excited about our pet robo fish too. We have been thinking about how to look after animals and have written sentences about what to do. Now we need to think of a name for our fish so that they become a full member of Reception class.

With nets, collection pots and magnifying glasses children will be able to look closely at these creepy crawlies and find out about what makes them special. Children are also visiting the EZone this term to find out more.

Reception children visited Weston-Super-Mare on Friday 8th July. We had a fantastic time. I am sure they will all remember the fantastic time they had together for sometime. They were so excited and smiled from start to finish. We are so very proud of them all, they were fantastic and a huge credit to our school.

 A Visit From The Dentist.

Reception class had two surprise visitors today as the dentist came to school. They told us how to look after our teeth and we all practised on giant sized teeth! We also learnt about how to keep our teeth healthy by eating lots of fruit and vegetables and drinking milk and water. She reminded us that now we are at school we should not be having bottles and dummies either. We all had a great time and loved meeting Frankie too!

Reception class were very surprised to find a treasure chest in their classroom! They looked at the chest carefully and tried to guess what could be inside. Children thought there may have been treasure, dolls or even a mouse inside the special chest. When they opened it they  were very shocked to find a letter from Pirate Pete and a special book to read. We can now tell this story all by ourselves. Listen to us read our pirate story.

starting school

Welcome to everybody who has joined Reception class this year. We have had a delightful start to the school year. The children look so smart in their new uniforms and have quickly settled into their new routine. Mrs Eden, Mrs Hart, Mrs Bentley, Mrs Cope and Miss Horner are all working in the Reception team this year and are really looking forward to the year ahead.

Everybody in Reception has started their reading journey. We teach phonics every day and have already learnt the first five sounds. This means that we can start to blend sounds together and read words. It is really important that the children use the sound that the letter makes rather than the letter name as this will help them to read words more quickly. All parents will be invited into school soon to take part in a phonics lesson with their child. Look out for information about this event.

In Reception we practise our counting skills everyday. We are trying really hard to count to twenty and remember all of the numbers. Children are working hard to recognise numbers all around them. See how many numbers you can spot on your way to school or count the cars that you see. This will help you to be come a math-a-magician in no time at all!

Watch out there are dinosaurs about!

Reception class were very excited to find a special parcel had been delivered to them at school. It was a special story book.

We loved reading all about Harry and his dinosaurs and all the fun that they had at school. The children in the story tried hard to make new friends, so we did too. They also tried to write their names so we did too! We enjoyed it so much we will be reading other stories about Harry and his dinosaur adventures.

We have painted dinosaur pictures and made some shape dinosaurs too. They are on display and we are really proud of them.

Important messages!

PE for Reception class is on a Friday morning. Many thanks to all of parents who named their child's PE kit. They really do look fabulous in their new kits. We are trying really hard to get ourselves dressed for PE. Please encourage your child to become independent too.

All children have been given a planner. Please send these back into school at the start of each week. We will send them back to you on a Friday with news about your child's week at school. Please take time to read the comments and talk about them with your child. There is a space for you to write comments back and we love to read these and find out what the children are learning at home too.

Walking In A Winter Wonderland!

Reception class all had a marvellous day in Winter Wonderland at the Snowdome. It all began when we met a talking Snowman who got us all ready for our time in the snow. We had to make sure we had all of our hats and gloves on as it was very cold. Children loved playing in the snow and had great fun sledging and sliding. They made lots of snow angels and threw lots of snowballs too!

After that children were lucky enough to see Santa and Mrs Claus in a special Christmas show.  They all clapped and cheered as we helped Santa save the day. We then visited Santa's house and meet three of his reindeer. It really was a magical day out.
