Welcome back to the summer term - time flies doesn't it!

Children were very excited to come back to school to a letter from Pirate Pete. He has set sail on an adventure and will be keeping in touch with us when he can. He sent us a picture of the island where he is. We have worked really hard to write about this island. Take a look at our fantastic work.

Doubling, halving and sharing.

Reception children are learning how to double numbers. They have learnt a song to help them remember doubles to 5. Ask your child at home to teach it to you! This term they will be learning about sharing and cutting things into half. Keep practising numbers to 20 at home too. It is important that they can order them all by themselves!

They are exploring measuring length too using cubes, hands and feet and tape measures. It's lots of fun!

Reception had an 'egg-cellent' day at school today as they all took part in an Easter egg hunt. They looked high and low to find all of the hidden chocolate treats. It was such great fun!

Later this week they will be busy cooking and decorating Easter biscuits, making Easter cards and taking part in the Easter bonnet parade!

Easter Chick Biscuits.

Reception class have really enjoyed making some tasty Easter biscuits. They weighed the ingredients together and mixed the ingredients together. Children all rolled the mixture and cut them into chick shapes. Now they can't wait to eat them!

They have written about pirates and are now writing messages to put in a bottle. We have painted pictures of pirates, sang pirate songs, dressed up and been on adventures using our compass and treasure maps. Take a look at some of our work.

We hope we don't have to walk the plank!

Reception class had a wonderful time on Pancake Day. We enjoyed taking part in pancake races. It was tricky to keep the pancake in the pan! After that we weighed and measured all of the ingredients to make pancakes. We needed to read the recipe and we had a go at writing our own recipes and lists too. The best bit was eating our pancakes. They were delicious!

Phonics

Children are working very hard to learn all of these set one sounds. Please practice them each day with your child. We are now blending the sounds together to make words. Ask your child to tell you all about Fred who helps us with our reading.

There is lots of useful information on how you can support your child at home at this website:

Number

Children are now exploring numbers to 20. They need to be able to count, recognise and order numbers to 20. We will be holding a workshop for parents to find out how you can support your child's learning at home soon.

******************************************************************

A big thank you to all of the parents who came to our Maths Workshop. The children were so excited to share their learning with you and loved that you came to school too! We hope that we have given you lots of ideas of things that you can try at home to support your child's learning. Please see one of the Reception staff team if you would like any more ideas of how you can help.

Children have already started learning to read. They are busy learning the first five sounds, m,a,s,d and t. When we have mastered these sounds we shall be putting them together to make words. Watch out for more information about how we teach phonics which is coming soon.

Reminders for parents.

Image result for pe kit

Please remember that PE will be taught on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please make sure that children have their full PE kit in school everyday and that they do not wear any jewellery on these days.

All children have a purple planner. These will be sent home with children on a Friday. Please make sure that they are returned each Monday so that we can let you know how your child is getting on. These are a brilliant way for you to communicate with us and we would love to read your comments about what the children have enjoyed that week at school.

Explorers at the ready!

Reception class had a really wonderful day exploring at the Ezone. The children loved exploring a different environment and getting muddy! They learnt all about their senses and made special boxes which they had to fill with soft, hard, round, sharp, rough and smooth objects. Next they used their sense of smell and explored the sensory garden. They loved smelling the lemon thyme, lavender and the curry plant. Children worked together in groups to make homes for animals. They collected sticks and leaves and built houses to keep their animals safe. During the afternoon they all made pictures with natural materials of different colours and toasted marshmallows on a camp fire. It was such a busy day! All of the children behaved brilliantly and they are looking forward to going again in April when hopefully they can try some pond dipping! Well done Reception, we are so proud of you.

Dinosaurs

We have had a fantastic time in Reception learning about Dinosaurs. We had lots to explore, including a Dinosaur Den. We have produced some super work too.

Divali celebrations

We have had lots of fun finding out about Divali and the how the festival is celebrated. We particularly enjoyed making vegetable curry and eating it.

OUR FIRST NATIVITY - No 1 Best Selling Nativity Play

Reception children were fantastic in our Christmas play. They all tried their best and were brilliant with their words and singing. We are very proud of them. Well done!
On Thursday 8th December we went to West Midlands Safari Park in Kidderminster. We had an amazing day! Reception children were fantastic and had a truly magical time. We had lots of smiles all day. The experience has helped support their Personal and Social Development, their Understanding of the World as well as mathematics and communication. They all loved sharing the magical experience with their friends. Seeing the animals and asking lots of questions about their size and colour and learning their names. We were also able to see Dinosaurs we had been learning about and named them and then we could dig for dinosaur bones. Our trip to see Santa was truly wonderful. Each child got to see Santa and have a photo taken. Santa spoke to each child individually, we saw lots of beaming smiles. Every child then got to go into Santa's toy shop and choose their own present. They just loved this! We would like to thank parents for allowing us to take the children and be part of this magical day. They were fantastically behaved, we are so very proud of them all. I am sure they will remember this experience and have lots to share.
