Home learning 13.05.20

Todays task is about checking what you know. Have a go at the spellings below without any help from your grownup. See how many you can spell by yourself. You can then also have a go at the maths questions. Your grown up can read them out to you if you need them to but try to have a go at the maths on your own.

Don't worry if you find it tricky or get some answers wrong. Thats okay! The bits that you find tricky just let me know what else we need to work on.

When you have done the task please share it with me on the school Facebook page, Blog or email your work to me here:

21.04.20- number line subtraction

This term we will be learning about intrepid explorers!

First we will focus of Christopher Columbus and his daring journey across the ocean in search of new lands, exotic gifts and fame. Then we will learn about a more modern explorer, Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon! Although both Columbus and Armstrong were explorers, their journeys were very different. We will spend time looking at these explorers and discussing how they were similar and how they were different.

As part of our science topic this half term we will be identifying different animals. There are lots of different types of animals in the UK so we need to find ways to classify and identify them by their features. We will look at their diet, habitat, physical appearance and how they grow from young to adults to help us to identify many different animals. This unit will involve looking at different animals that some people may have as pets. If you have a pet that you would like to share, please bring in a photograph so that we can look at it together.

Reading is always a big focus for us in year 1 and we are always looking at books and sharing stories. If you are sharing books together at home we would love to hear about it! Bring your favourite book into school and we can all read it as a class and develop our love of reading.

Welcome back!

We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas break and are feeling refreshed and ready to learn! Now that Christmas is over there are lots of new and exciting things to learn in year 1.

In Geography this term we will be learning about the 7 continents of the world! We will follow the travels of

Buddy the bee as he visits all 7 continents and explores the countries of each. We will visit the carnivals of Brazil, the Australian outback and will even go on safari in Africa!

The children will be asked to talk about their experiences of visiting other countries on holiday or from what they already know about the continents of the world. If you have photographs from visits to different countries or even any souvenirs , we would love you to bring them in to show us!

Or topic for R.E this term is all about special books. First the children will think about books that are special to them. It may be a book they read at home with a grown up or even a book they like to look at themselves. We will think about why these books are special to us and what we do to keep them safe so they don't get lost or damaged.

We will then think about books like the bible and Torah which are special to different religions. We will explore the stories written in these books and will learn about the special rules for taking care of them.

Throughout this topic we will learn to listen to and respect the beliefs of other people even if we have different beliefs ourselves. It is important for us to have an understanding of all of the religions around us to help us to show tolerance and respect for every ones beliefs.

MATHS- Counting in 2s and 10s

This term in maths we have been learning to count in 2s and 10s. We have done this by learning some fun new songs to help us remember the numbers. We are now experts at counting in 2s and 10s. Take a look for yourself!

Welcome to year 1!

Welcome back to year 1! We hope you have had a wonderful break and are feeling excited and ready to learn. I know we are!

This first term in year 1 will be full of interesting new things to explore to develop our understanding of the world we live in both today and days gone by.

As always, don't hesitate to ask our year 1 team if you have any questions or wonderful news to share!

Our History topic this term is all about Toys in the past and in the present. We will be exploring the toys that we play with now and will see how they compare to the toys that our parents and even grandparents played with! As always we love to get our families involved too and will be encouraging the children to ask family members about the toys that they enjoyed when they were younger.

Please support our learning by sharing any stories you have with your child and we would love the children to bring in any toys from days gone by that you still have around.

This is a very exciting topic for the children and we appreciate your continued support.
