Monday 14th December Home Learning
Home learning this week is going to be slightly different. As you have worked your socks off completing lots of your home learning tasks over the last few weeks, I thought this week we would have some fun doing some Christmas activities. So, I won't be posting three videos each day this week, I will be posting either a Maths or English activity and a craft activity each day.
Maths
So today if we had been in school we would have done our maths challenge. Now I know how you love doing this, so I thought today you could have a go at some Christmas multiplication mosaics. See how speedy you are with filling in the answers. You will find the sheets below. I know you are brilliant at your times tables Year 3. I can't wait to see how you do.
Christmas Craft Activity
For today's Christmas craft activity I would like you to have a go at making a Christmas Santa. Head over to the video resource section, watch the video and then have a go at making one! I can't wait to see your Santa creations Year 3!
Tuesday 15th December Home Learning
Christmas Maths
Today I would like you to solve some addition and subtraction calculations. Once you have worked out each calculation, the answer you get is linked to a letter of the alphabet. Now the letters will make words. Once you have worked out what each word is you will be able to find out the punch line of the Christmas jokes. The sheets are attached below.
Christmas Wreath Craft
Our Christmas craft activity for today is to make a Christmas wreath. Head over to the video resource centre to watch my video of how to make one. The template is attached below. If you can't print the template out please have a go at making your own wreath. Try to be as creative as you can.

Your Christmas English task for today is to read four short pieces of text and answer some questions about each piece. Don't forget to share your work with me once you have completed the questions. The texts and questions are attached below.
Christmas Food Craft
Today I thought it would be nice for you to have a go at making some Festive Christmas food. It can be anything you like. You could decorate some biscuits with Christmassy shapes, you could use marshmallows to make a snowman, you could use fruit and vegetables to make a Santa, you could even make some rice crispie Christmas puddings, it is entirely up to you. Today I thought you could have a go at a Christmas crossword and some Christmas word searches. You could even create your own for someone else to complete.
Christmas Card
Today we will be making our Christmas card using a technique called quilling. Now this technique is when you coil strips of card tightly around a pencil or a similar type of object.These strips will stay coiled when you remove them. Watch the video below which explains how to make a quilled Christmas card. To learn how to make the little yellow 3D star for the top of your tree watch the next video below. Monday 7th December Home Learning
Literacy
Today we are going to answer some questions about a Christmas advert about a dragon called Edgar. You might have seen this advert before. You must have the questions,which are attached below, infront of you before you start watching the advert. As you watch the advert you will need to pause it where it tells you to do on the question sheet and then answer the questions. There will be a variety of different questions to answer for example inference questions ( looking for clues to work out the answer), vocabulary questions ( remember a synonym is another word which means the same), predicting ( what you think is going to happen next), retrieval questions and summarising.
Maths
Today we are going to recap on finding fractions of amounts. Watch the video and powerpoint and then have a go at answering the questions.
History
Today we will be finding out about how people lived in the Iron Age. Work through the slides and then have a go at completing one of the worksheets. I would expect most of you to complete worksheet 6b. Use the quote sheets to help you.
Tuesday 8th December Home Learning

I would like you to write a letter of apology from Edgar to the villagers, explaining how sorry you are for all
the things that you did. It would be a good idea to watch the advert a few times and jot down your ideas. I've included an example below for you to have a look at.
Maths
I would like you to work through the fractions word problems below. Remember to read the problems carefully a few times. Explain the problem in your own words so that you know exactly what the problem is asking you to find out. Then have a go at working out the fraction calculations.
History
Today we will recap and summarise the prehistory of Britain. Read through the slides and then I would like you to create an information booklet all about Prehistoric Britain. The template is on one of the worksheets.

I would like you to retell the story of Edgar the Dragon in your own words. I have attached a template below with lots of pictures to remind you of the order of events.
Maths
Today I would like you to watch the powerpoint about adding fractions and then have a go at the worksheets. On the second and third worksheets there are two sets of the same questions so I would only want you to complete one set please.
History
We have come to the end of our History unit so today I would like to you to have a go at the quiz to see how much you remember about Prehistoric Britain. You could also tell me three interesting facts about this topic.

Literacy
Today in English we will be recapping on apostrophes, when one thing belongs to another, this is called possession. I would like you to read through the slides which explains all about using an apostrophe of possession with singular and proper nouns. Then I would like you to complete one of the worksheets below. You could also write some of your own sentences using possessive apostrophes too.
Maths
You did a fantastic job with adding fractions yesterday so today we will be working on subtracting fractions with the same denominator. Read through the slides below and have a go at completing the worksheets
History/Art
Last week in History we found out that early humans in the Stone Age were also known as cavemen. In the caves where these cavemen lived were often paintings on the walls. Cave paintings have been found in caves all over the world. Most of these cave paintings were of animals or hunters. Sometimes people made paintings of the outline of their hands. Today I would like you to create your own cave art work. The colours that I would like you to use are natural colours like red, brown, black and white. Read through the slides below and then have a go at creating your own cave art work.

Today we are going to focus on the possessive plural apostrophe. Watch the powerpoint below and then have a go at the worksheets.
Maths
Today is BIG MATHS. Have a go at completing one of the big maths sheets below. If you usually work with Mrs Colley for Big Maths then try stage 2, the rest of you I would like stage 3 completed please.
On the stage 3 sheet don't worry about answering questions 24 and 25 as these questions haven't copied into the document correctly for some reason.
History/Art
Now we have learnt about the Iron Age in History, today I thought we would use our artistic skills to make our own Iron Age shield. Watch the teaching clip below about the Iron Age to remind you about this period of history and have a look at an example of a shield on my video to give you some ideas of what to do. I have also included a template below if you need to use one.
Monday 30th November Home Learning

Watch the video 'Taking Flight' below and pause it around 1 minute 26 seconds. Think about what has happened so far. Who are the characters? Can you make a prediction about what might happen next?
After that I would like you to focus on the garage scene. This scene is shown around 1 minute 26 seconds, I have also included a picture of the garage scene below. What can you see on the shelves? What kind of things might be in the boxes in Grandpa's garage? There are boxes with photographs and memories written on them. What could the things inside show?What could the trophies be for? Jot down all your ideas.
Literacy Task
I would like you to write a descriptive paragraph about the garage scene. Try to include a range of adjectives (describing words) and include some preposition phrases for example:- on top of, next to, inside, underneath, by the side of. If you are a bit unsure of how to start here are some ideas.
On one of the dusty shelves ,Tony spotted some silver,sporting, trophies. Maybe Grandpa had won them when he was a boy playing his favourite sport. Below the trophies, there was an old cardboard box with the word 'memories' written on it.There could be some wonderful, precious, old toys kept inside. On the bottom shelf, there were a pile of different sized paint pots in the corner. Next to the shelves there was a tatty, red cupboard with lots of dents in the drawers.

Today we are going to begin our History Topic which is all about Prehistoric Britain. Work through the slides below and then I would like you to pick either worksheet A or B to complete from the worksheet file below. The picture cards are on page 5 in the worksheets document.

Today I would like you to watch the video 'Taking Flight' again up to 1 minute and 26 seconds. Then I would like you to focus on the characters - Dad, Tony and Grandpa. I would like you to describe each character. Think about what they look like but also think about their personalities, how they react to situations and how they feel in the clip. Then I would like you to write some amazing sentences about each character.
For example if you start with Tony think about what he is wearing? Think about his hair colour. What is he clutching? Why might he be feeling fed up? Then do the same for Dad and then Grandpa.

History

Today I would like you to play the video clip of 'Taking Flight' from beginning to end. You will find the clip
in Monday 30th November home learning English area. Once you have watched the video I would like you to summarise the story in your own words. Now remember summarising means recounting the important events in the order that they happen. If you are a bit unsure how to start here are some ideas.
Tony had to spend the day at Grandpa's house because his Dad had to go to work.
While Grandpa mowed the grass Tony explored in the garage.

Months and Years
I would like you to first write down a list of the months of the year in order. Then I would like you to write how many days there are in each month. I have a little poem to help you to with this.
30 days have September, April, June and November
All the rest have 31 except February which has 28 and 29 in Leap Year.
Now I would like you to work through the slides below and then complete one of the worksheets.
History
Today we are going to find out how people lived in the Mesolithic Period of the Stone Age. I would like you to work through the slides below and then find the information worksheet about Star Carr and complete worksheet 3A. I would love to see you having a go at making an antler headdress.
Thursday 3rd December Home Learning

Today I would like you to pretend to be Tony and then write a diary entry about his day with Grandpa.
Start with 'Dear Diary'. Then describe the places where the events happened. Write in the past tense. Use pronouns like I, my, me to show that the events happened to you. Talk about how you were feeling or what you were thinking when each event happened. Here is one way you could begin your diary:-
Dear Diary,
I thought today was going to be so boring but it turned out to be the best day ever! It all started when I had to spend the day with Grandpa because Dad had to work. I thought I would be bored out of my mind! But I was so wrong about that!

How many hours are there in one day? How many hours are there in two days? Three days? Half a day? A quarter of a day? Three quarters of a day?

Can you remember what punctuation is needed when we write dialogue (speech)? Watch the powerpoint about how to use inverted commas( sixty sixes and ninety nines). Then I would like you to underline the speech in the piece of text which you will find in the worksheets below. Also I would like you to write a conversation between Tony and his Dad in which he tells him about his day. For example you could begin
"Hi Tony, have you had a good time with Grandpa?" asked Dad.
"I had a brilliant day. We've been on lots of adventures," replied Tony.
"What have you been up to? asked Dad.

Measuring Time in Seconds
Work through the slides below and then have a go at the questions.
Remember there are 60 seconds in 1 minute. There are 30 seconds in half a minute. There are 15 seconds in a quarter of a minute. There are 45 seconds in three quarters of a minute.
History
Today you will find out how people lived in the Bronze Age. I would like you to read through the slides and then make your own information sheet all about the Bronze Age. Some questions that you could answer are:- What was invented in the Bronze Age? What kind of objects were made out of bronze? ( You could draw some pictures of the objects) Where was Bronze first made? How did people live in the Bronze Age? ( you could draw some pictures of where they lived) What did they bury their dead in?

Well Done to this superstar in Year 3 who has won the 'Well Done' certificate this week.
This half term we have been very busy!
In Science, we learned about rocks and how they are formed. We grouped rocks according to their characteristics and also we explored their uses. We looked at different soils and explored how fossils are formed.
Take a look at us exploring different soils.
In Computing, we designed and wrote a program that simulates a physical action i.e. vehicles moving at different speeds and angles. The children have used a timer to make a character repeat actions and have explored the use of the repeat command and how it differs from the timer.
In Art, we investigated the use of symbols in Aboriginal art. We experimented with the dot technique. We created a piece of art work in the style of an aboriginal Dreamtime journey.
